This page explains what this website stores in your browser — cookies and similar techniques such as localStorage — what each item is for, and how you can control them. The short version: this site is built to work without tracking. It stores a few small functional preferences, it sets no analytics or advertising cookies at all, and the only cookies beyond that appear if you sign in to the client portal or the members area.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files a website places on your device to remember something about you or your visit — like a login session or a preference. localStorage is a similar browser feature for storing small pieces of data; unlike cookies, it is never sent to a server.
What this website stores
Functional (always active)
These items are needed for the website to work properly and remember your choices. They don't track you and are never shared with anyone.
| Name | Type | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
theme | localStorage | Remembers your light/dark mode preference. |
hm_portal_session | cookie | Keeps a client signed in to the client portal, for one day. Set only after somebody signs in, and readable only by the server. |
hm_member_session | cookie | Keeps a member signed in to the members area, for one day. Set only after somebody signs in, and readable only by the server. |
hm_member | cookie | Lets the page know it is worth asking whether somebody is signed in. Its value is the character 1 and nothing else, and it grants no access on its own. |
The last three appear only if you sign in to the client portal or the members area. Nobody reaches them without being added by me first, so most visitors never receive them.
Analytics
This website uses Umami to count visits — which pages are read, and roughly where readers come from. Umami sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, and what it records cannot be traced back to a person. There is nothing here to accept or refuse, which is why you are not asked.
Advertising and tracking
None. This website sets no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking cookies, and it carries no third-party scripts that would.
Managing your preferences
Nothing on this website waits on your consent, because nothing here is optional: the functional items above are what the site needs to work, and there is no analytics or advertising cookie to refuse. That is why you are not shown a banner.
You can also delete or block cookies through your browser settings at any time — see the help pages of your browser for instructions. Note that blocking functional storage may affect how the website remembers your preferences.
